The 2026 vs. 2027 RAM 1500 comparison is more of a lineup evolution than a full generation change. Both model years offer the Pentastar V6, twin-turbo Hurricane and 5.7L HEMI V8, along with a wide range of trims spanning from a work truck to a higher-end model.
Differences are much more significant on the performance side. For 2027, RAM launches the new Rumble Bee with three V8 choices and brings back the TRX SRT, with the SRT badge for the very first time and a supercharged 6.2L HEMI V8 rated at 777 horsepower. For shoppers more focused on a Tradesman, Big Horn, Sport, Rebel or Limited, the changes are subtler.
2026 vs. 2027 RAM 1500: the main differences
The 2026 lineup had already marked an important step with the return of the 5.7L HEMI V8. RAM also kept the 3.6L Pentastar V6 and the 3.0L Hurricane engines in standard output and high output.
For 2027, these engines remain available. RAM Canada specifically confirms the two 3.0L Hurricane engines and the 5.7L HEMI in its official 2027 presentation.
The big change is the broadened performance family. The Rumble Bee arrives with 5.7L, 6.4L and supercharged 6.2L HEMI V8s depending on trim, while the TRX SRT returns with SRT badge for the first time and the supercharged engine at 777 horsepower. It shares this engine with the SRT version of the Rumble Bee.

For most buyers of a regular trim, moving from 2026 to 2027 does not fundamentally transform the truck. For those seeking a performance truck, the 2027 choice is broader than what was offered in 2026.
Do the 2027 RAM 1500 engines change?
The mainstream mechanical offering remains similar between the two years. The Pentastar V6, both Hurricane engines and the 5.7L HEMI V8 are already offered in 2026 and still part of the 2027 RAM 1500 universe.
The difference mainly involves engines reserved for the new performance models. The Rumble Bee adds the 6.4L HEMI, while its SRT trim and the TRX SRT use the supercharged 6.2L HEMI.
3.6L Pentastar V6
The Pentastar V6 with eTorque develops 305 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque. For the 2026 RAM 1500, RAM Canada publishes up to 8,110 lb. of towing on its detailed capability page, depending on configuration.
This engine suits daily driving, work around the house and moderate towing needs. An owner who regularly tows a heavy trailer would be better served by the Hurricane SO or certain HEMI configurations.
3.0L twin-turbo Hurricane engines
The standard-output Hurricane develops 420 horsepower and 469 lb-ft, while the Hurricane HO reaches 540 horsepower and 521 lb-ft.
For 2026, RAM Canada lists up to 11,220 lb. of towing with the Hurricane SO and up to 10,000 lb. with the HO. The most powerful engine is therefore not automatically the one that tows the heaviest trailer.
For 2027, RAM Canada still confirms both Hurricane engines. The HO remains particularly interesting for drivers who prioritize performance, including with the RHO.
5.7L HEMI V8
The 5.7L HEMI V8 develops 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft. On the 2026 model, RAM Canada publishes a maximum towing capacity of 10,170 lb. when properly equipped.
The HEMI remains available in 2027 and plays an even larger role with the arrival of the Rumble Bee. The entry Rumble Bee trim uses this V8.
Rumble Bee and TRX: the big news for 2027
This is where the 2026 vs. 2027 RAM 1500 comparison truly shifts. Two performance truck families now clearly distinguish the new model year.
The new 2027 RAM 1500 Rumble Bee
The Rumble Bee is not just a cosmetic trim on a conventional RAM 1500. RAM Canada presents it as a muscle truck focused on on-road performance, with a Quad Cab, a short cargo bed and a wider body.
Three engines are offered. The Rumble Bee uses the 5.7L HEMI with 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft, the Rumble Bee 392 gets a 6.4L HEMI with 470 horsepower and 455 lb-ft, while the Rumble Bee SRT uses the supercharged 6.2L HEMI with 777 horsepower and 680 lb-ft. A 392 Track Pack completes the range.
The 5.7L Rumble Bee is expected from late 2026, while the 392 and SRT should follow in the first half of 2027. In Canada, prices including announced fees range from $81,990 to $128,990 according to Le Guide de l’auto.
The return of the TRX SRT
The TRX also returns for 2027 after being absent from the 2026 lineup. Its supercharged 6.2L HEMI V8 now develops 777 horsepower and 680 lb-ft.
Its mission differs from the Rumble Bee. The Rumble Bee favours on-road performance, while the TRX SRT remains geared to high off-road performance with 35-inch all-terrain tires, Bilstein Black Hawk e2 adaptive dampers and 11.8 inches of ground clearance.
Canadian MSRP is $144,995, plus $2,995 for freight and PDI. It is scheduled to reach certain Canadian dealers in fall 2026.
Are the technologies different between 2026 and 2027?
Several key technologies were already available in 2026 and remain offered in 2027.
Depending on trim and options, the RAM 1500 can offer:
- Uconnect touch screen up to 14.5 inches
- 10.25-inch interactive display for the front passenger
- 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster
- Head-Up Display
- Driver assistance and towing technologies
Equipment levels vary a great deal between a Tradesman and a Limited, Tungsten, RHO or SRT model. A 2026 in a higher trim can, therefore, offer more equipment than a less upscale 2027.
What about towing and payload?
For towing, configuration remains more important than model year. Engine, cab, cargo bed, options, passengers and carried load can all change real-world capacity.
For the 2026 model, detailed data published by RAM Canada indicates:
|
Engine |
Power |
2026 maximum towing |
|---|---|---|
|
3.6L Pentastar V6 |
305 horsepower |
8,110 lb.* |
|
3.0L Hurricane SO |
420 horsepower |
11,220 lb. |
|
3.0L Hurricane HO |
540 horsepower |
10,000 lb. |
|
5.7L HEMI V8 |
395 horsepower |
10,170 lb. |
*RAM Canada currently lists 8,110 lb. on its detailed capability page, while the FAQ still shows 7,340 lb. We rely here on the detailed model page as the adjusted towing capacity.
These values are maximums when the truck is properly equipped. They should not be applied automatically to all RAM 1500 trucks with the same engine.
For 2027, you also need to consider the specialized models. The Rumble Bee can tow up to 8,890 lb. based on published Canadian figures, but its priority remains on-road performance rather than achieving the lineup’s absolute maximum capability.
2026 or 2027 RAM 1500: which year should you choose?
The 2026 model keeps a concrete advantage. It is already widely available and some vehicles may be subject to promotions. Since its main mainstream powertrains carry over to 2027, a well-configured 2026 can be an advantageous solution. However, even if not all 2027 models are widely available yet, it can be worth waiting to benefit from the new additions.
Choose the 2026 RAM 1500
A 2026 model can be especially interesting if:
- You find the trim and engine you want in stock
- A promotion makes its price more attractive
- You want the 5.7L HEMI without seeking a Rumble Bee or a TRX
- The technologies already available meet your needs
A well-equipped 2026 Big Horn, Sport or Rebel can offer better value than a comparable 2027 if the price gap is large enough.

Choose the 2027 RAM 1500
The 2027 model year becomes more relevant if you want access to the latest additions to the lineup. The advantage is clearest on the performance side.
The Rumble Bee offers a new on-road approach with three V8s, while the TRX SRT brings back a 777-horsepower proposal aimed at off-road. For a regular trim, it is still a good idea to compare equipment and price directly with a 2026.

Buyer wanting Rumble Bee, TRX or the 2027 model year |
For regular trims, similarities between the two model years remain significant. Engine, equipment, required capability and the price of a specific unit should, therefore, weigh more heavily in the decision.
For the driver who wants the Rumble Bee or the new TRX SRT, the situation is different. These models make the 2027 model year a clearly distinct choice. In other cases, comparing two vehicles side by side remains the best way to determine which one fits the intended use.
