Aesthetic differences between the RAM 1500 and RAM 1500 Classic

Although both models have a muscular and robust silhouette, there are a few differences between them. Indeed, while the 1500 Classic sports a historic look and Classic badges on the fenders, and offers a choice of 8 models of wheels from 17 to 20 inches, the RAM 1500 offers a even more muscular design, highlighted by a more aggressive front end, a sculpted hood – with or without air scoop depending on the model – as well as some 20 wheel models with diameters ranging from 18 to 22 inches.

In addition, the RAM 1500’s Multifunction Tailgate features 60/40 split swing-away doors, a feature not found on the Classic model. On the other hand, the RamBox Cargo Management system, exclusive to RAM, is offered on both the 1500 and the Classic, depending on the version you choose.

RAM 1500 vs. RAM 1500 Classic: sizes

Although they are both sturdy and imposing, there are some differences between the sizes of these 2 RAM trucks. For example, only the Classic models offer you the possibility of opting for the Regular cab, which can be combined with a 5’7″, 6’4″, or 8′ box. The RAM Classic can also be equipped with a Quad or Crew cab but in these cases, the 8′ truck bed is not offered.

As for the RAM 1500, depending on the version chosen, you will get either a Crew or Quad cab, as well as a 5’7″ or a 6’4″ box.

Under the hood of the RAM 1500 Classic, you will get the choice between the 2 following powertrains:

  • 3.6L Pentastar V6 with 305 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque,
  • 5.7L HEMI V8 with 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque.

These two engines are paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and, depending on the model, a 4×2 or 4×4 drive system. In addition, you will enjoy a maximum towing capacity of 10,610 lb and a payload of 1930 lb, depending on the configuration you choose.

In the case of the RAM 1500, you have more choices in terms of engines, all paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission:

  • 3.6L Pentastar V6 with eTorque technology, 305 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque (with additional launch torque of 90 lb-ft),
  • 5.7L HEMI V8 with 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft,
  • 5.7L HEMI V8 with eTorque, 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft (with additional launch torque of 130 lb-ft),
  • 3.0L EcoDiesel V6 with 260 horsepower and 480 lb-ft (the highest torque in its class),
  • 6.2L supercharged HEMI V8 with 702 horsepower and 650 lb-ft (TRX version), making the RAM 1500 thus equipped the most powerful production truck to date.

The RAM 1500 also offers a maximum towing capacity of 12,750 lb as well as a payload of up to 2,300 lb.
