The 2027 RAM 2500 is aimed at drivers who need more capability than a conventional full-size truck, especially to pull a heavy trailer, tow equipment or work with a substantial load.
For 2027, the truck maintains the 6.4L HEMI V8 and the 6.7L inline-six Cummins HO turbodiesel. Changes focus mainly on equipment, personalization and certain configurations.
What’s new for the 2027 RAM 2500?
The 2027 RAM 2500 represents more of an evolution of the Heavy Duty than a full redesign. Powertrains are essentially the same, but several updates let you tailor the truck more closely to the job.
The Power Wagon gains rims compatible with beadlock rings. On the Rebel and Power Wagon equipped with the HEMI, the Warn electric Winch can now be ordered separately instead of requiring a full package. The Sport Performance hood also becomes a standalone option on certain configurations.
HEMI-equipped models also receive a new “Symbol of Protest” emblem. Two colours are announced later in the model year: Serrano Green Metallic and Tank Clear-Coat.
RAM Canada also announces, for this refreshed family, three HEMI V8s of 5.7L, 6.4L and supercharged 6.2L depending on trim. The 6.4L HEMI V8 has been improved and can now reach 410 horsepower.
Engines and capability of the 2027 RAM 2500
The engine is probably the most important decision when configuring a 2027 RAM 2500. The HEMI V8 suits many professional uses, while the Cummins becomes particularly interesting when heavy towing is a daily requirement.
6.4L HEMI V8
For 2027, the 6.4L HEMI V8 delivers 410 horsepower and 429 lb-ft of torque according to Canadian information published on Heavy Duty updates. It is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission.
A RAM 2500 with the HEMI can tow up to 17,740 lb. and maximum payload reaches 4,580 lb. when properly configured. That payload figure is especially useful to haul tools, materials or equipment directly in the cargo bed.
For a contractor who uses the truck daily but does not constantly pull a very heavy trailer, the gas V8 can be a better fit than the diesel.
6.7L Cummins HO turbodiesel
The high-output 6.7L Cummins develops 430 horsepower and, more importantly, 1,075 lb-ft of torque. The 2027 RAM 2500 will offer it along with the TorqueFlite HD 8-speed automatic transmission.
This powertrain lets the RAM 2500 achieve a maximum towing capacity of 20,000 lb. when properly equipped. Maximum payload reaches 3,990 lb. depending on configuration.
The difference with the HEMI becomes clear when you compare their use cases:

The diesel adds only 20 more horsepower, but its torque is more than double. That is what helps move a heavy trailer from a stop and maintain confident passing while loaded.
Which 2027 RAM 2500 trim should you choose?
The needs of a contractor, a trailer owner and an off-road enthusiast differ a lot. The Canadian lineup notably includes the Tradesman, Black Express, Warlock, Big Horn, Laramie, Rebel, Power Wagon, Limited and Limited Longhorn.
For work: Tradesman and Big Horn
The Tradesman is the entry point and prioritizes professional needs. The various cab and cargo bed configurations let you fit the truck to passenger count, payload and towing.
The Big Horn adds more comfort features and strikes a useful compromise when one truck serves for both work and personal driving.
Units of the 2027 RAM 2500 are also beginning to appear in Duclos Laval Chrysler’s inventory, which makes it easier to compare available or incoming configurations.
For off-road: Rebel and Power Wagon
The Rebel and Power Wagon are better suited to rough roads, difficult site access and off-road activities. The Power Wagon remains the more specialized choice for this type of use.
For 2027, the beadlock-compatible rims broaden off-road prep possibilities. You can now also opt for the Warn Winch separately without necessarily adding a full group.
For a driver who mainly tows a trailer on the highway, these items will be less of a priority. They become more relevant for regular access to a cottage or forest property.
For more comfort: Laramie, Limited and Longhorn
A Heavy Duty truck can also serve as a primary vehicle. The upper trims therefore put more emphasis on comfort, higher-end materials and onboard tech.
Depending on configuration, the 2027 RAM 2500 offers the Uconnect 5 system, a touch screen up to 14.5 inches and a 10.25-inch interactive screen for the front passenger.
Useful tech for work and towing
Technology in the 2027 RAM 2500 is not just about entertainment. Several available systems make towing and low-speed manoeuvres with a trailer easier.
RAM offers trailer monitoring technologies, telescoping trailer tow rearview mirrors and different prep options for hitches. With the Cummins, the automatic exhaust brake also helps control the truck-trailer combination on long descents.
If you tow regularly, these features can be as important as the engine’s peak output.

The first 2027 RAM Heavy Duty models are expected at Canadian dealers in the third quarter of 2026. Availability will vary depending on engine, cab, trim and selected options.
Units can also appear in a dealer’s inventory before all configurations are widely available. A buyer who needs a truck quickly should therefore check models already ordered or in transit.
